Additional Facilities For Making Automatic Electric Blankets Will Be Opened At Smithfield Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., will discon tinue all manufacturing operations at its St. Marys blanket manufacturing plant in St. Marys, Ohio, before the end of the year and will move all of the machinery and equipment from St. Marys to the company’s blanket mill in Draper and finishing plant in Spray, North Carolina, according to a state ment issued by H. W. Whitcomb, presi dent of Fieldcrest and chairman of St. Marys Woolen Manufacturing Com pany, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fieldcrest. The St. Marys operation was pur chased by Fieldcrest October 1, 1957, and has been operated the last two years solely on wool blankets. Field crest will continue to manufacture the St. Marys line of wool blankets in its North Carolina mill. Substantial eco nomies will be achieved by combining the two operations and enable the com pany to be more competitive in the blanket field, in which it is a large fac tor. A building program involving an ex penditure of $650,000 is under way at the Draper blanket mill, and an overall expenditure of $2,450,000 will be made in modernizing present machinery and installing additional equipment in the Draper blanket mill and the finishing mill at Spray during the next six months. The St. Marys mill normally em ployed 200 people, and it is expected (Continued on page six) Fund Reaches $64,358 Latest reports show $64,358.72 has been raised for the Tri-City Communi ty Fund against the quota of $50,508. At Fieldcrest, the employees pledged $39,504 and the CpmpanY gave $5,000.
